Tour de Cure with the Diabetes Association

Early on Sunday morning February 12, 2012, volunteers from the Coral Gables Rotary Club participated in the Diabetes Association's bike ride fundraising event called 'Tour de Cure', which begun at Virginia Key Beach. Dick Golden, Diane Thurston, Lorraine Sheldon, and Deena Bell Llewellyn arrived at 5:30 am to work the registration pavilion. We helped register over 550 bikers all in 2 hours ! We assisted with the execution of biker release forms, the taking of donations and registration fees, pinning on racer numbers, taping on identification wristbands, and distributing maps of each course. Riders participating in the event got to choose from 100 , 62 or 30 mile courses departing from Key Biscayne, and going all over Miami. There was also a mountain bike course and a family fun ride course for younger riders and their parents. Thanks to our loyal Rotary volunteers for "sporting" parkas, gloves, caps, and braving 45 degree temperatures to contribute to the success of this local community service project! The Diabetes Association attendees were very appreciative and hope to see us again next year.
