 Presentation

PP Don Slesnick presented Rick Tonkinson with a pin and a certificate as a Life Member of the Naval War College Foundation.  Rick attended a Naval Seminar in Rhode Island.  We are thrilled by all the Rotarians that make us proud, congratulations, Rick!

 Happy Dollars

Today Don Trombly was doing the Happy Dollars. Chuck Whitcomb is happy because he is going to Des Moines, to see his grandson play. Chuck ‘s grandson plays for Montana State on the offense and is 6’5” tall and weighs 280 pounds. Steve Spann found the $5 dollars he is giving today in his suit pocket. Richard De Witt was happy because it is always good when you find $20, $30 or $5 dollars, also if you find four hundred fifty two thousand miles on your credit card. With these, he and his wife will be going to Mongolia. He also has now a status :Platinum! Greg Martini had a great time at Don Trombly’s house for a Boy Scouts meeting. He was also happy that his wife Nancy won the gift certificate at Eddie’s Fifth Friday. Eddie Snow was very happy for the turn-out on Friday. Almost ran out of wine and Elizabeth’s food was great!  President Walter  Thanked Eddie for the excellent Friday event and everyone that attended. He also said that when he was in the Navy, he had been in Newport, Rhode Island where Rich attended the Naval War College. We made $200 dollars from the raffle at Eddie’s. The proceeds will go to The Rotary Club of Coral Gables Foundation.  Margarita Tonkinson was very happy with the recognition given to Rich that made a big impact in his life, which also impacts hers ! Dick Golden joked about a couple with problems and the wife told the husband that they had some good years.Thehusband replied: “the only good years we have together are the tires in our car..."
Today's Speaker

Dr. Enrique Ginzberg, MD, Project MediShare Board, Director Neurosurgery, Intensive Care Unit at Ryder Trauma Center was our speaker today.

Project Medishare is dedicated to providing comprehensive health and development services and building capacity in Haiti.  Project MediShare’s work saves lives and forms the foundation upon which larger social change is built.

The organization treats more than 180,000 people annually and operates:

  • The country’s only critical care and trauma hospital;
  • The only Newborn and Pediatric Intensive Care Units for the sickest premature infants and children;
  • Multiple rural community health clinics;
  • A major cholera treatment facility; and
  • The nation’s most advanced prosthetics facility.

Project Medishare also mobilized the first medical team on the ground in Haiti just 12 hours after the devastating 2010 earthquake.

For 45 months, the hospital was working out of tents, but now they have a hospital where they can attend patients better. At present, they have 22 doctors, 44 nurses and 70 support staff and administration.
