Project: Provide oral rehydration to millions of children

Club name: Rotary Club of East London Sunrise
Description: Club member Helen Batting designed a double-ended spoon that measures the exact amount of sugar and salt to be added to a cup of boiling water to create a rehydration fluid. The simple spoon will save the lives of children in South Africa who are dehydrated because of diarrhea. So far, the club has raised enough funds to produce 20,000 spoons. Club members hope the project ultimately will benefit 5.8 million children.
Resources required: Contributions of US$25 to fund 100 spoons each
