A Little History of Your Rotary Club
The year 1974-1975 was unique for our Club because Bill Lewis, an outstanding member of our Club served as District Governor. In the same year, a member of our District, Bill Robbins of Ft. Lauderdale, was President of Rotary International (a significant year for me as well because I was President of another Rotary Club in this District that year and was invited to join the Coral Gables Club on July 1, 1975, (the day I finished my job at the "other" club). Roger Eikenberry (Rob Hatfield's father-in-law) was our President and a whole bunch of guys were involved in District responsibilities under Bill Lewis' leadership. In recognition for Bill's achievements, the Club pulled together $1,000 and made Bill a Paul Harris Fellow, our Club's first. We initiated an international project in El Salvador and a whole tour group of Coral Gables Rotarians and their spouses visited the project site. Dues were raised to $72 per year, luncheons went up to $3.75 and our Club's operating budget was only $13,000.
