A Little History of Your Rotary Club
Say congratulations to Sam Burroughs who celebrates his 85th birthday next week. Sam also celebrated his 41st year in our Club this year (1997). Only Cleve Allen has been in the Club longer. For many years, Sam was our Treasurer, budget director and bookkeeper after he retired from U.S. Steel.

What was happening in our club during Sam's first year as a Rotarian? He was inducted at the end of Mayor Jerry Dressel's year as President. Most of his first year was under the leadership of Larry Larimore, who passed away a few months ago (1997). The Club grew to 115 members that year. Returning from a year as Rotary Foundation Scholar in South America was Owen Freed, later to become Club President and Founder of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program.

Ed. Note: Sam Burroughs, a founding member of the Fellowship of Motorcycle Rotarians, came to our meeting on his motorcycle until 1996. He was the cover story in The Rotarian Magazine that year -- in an article about the Motorcycle Fellowship.
