Donor Funding for 2011 RCCG Scholarships, Join Us !

We are grateful for all of our Scholarship donors, including the Jules Zentner Scholarship Fund, through Trustee, David Sanchez, the Rick and Margarita Tonkinson Foundation and Joan Reitsma and the Thrivent Corporation. These donations added to the weekly Happy Dollars and other member donations will fund $11,000 in Scholarships in the 2011 Rotary year to seniors at Coral Gables Senior High School. Thanks to Randy Groh, Susan Guttmann and other Happy Dollars leaders for keeping the enthusiasm for scholarships going and to Sally for always recommending that Raffle donations be targeted for Scholarships. For more information on the Rotary Club of Coral Gables Scholarship Program, contact Terry Long, terryclong@bellsouth.net , (305) 441-8063.

Scholarships are open to seniors at Coral Gables Senior High School and applications are available in the CAP Office at the school from Gayle Payne or Barbara Inskeep. The Coral Gables Senior High School student population is 80% outside of Coral Gables and there are many students in need of help for higher education.

Special consideration is given to applicants from the Interact Club, a Rotary sponsored community service organization for high school students to give back to the community.
The Interact liason is Phil Boswell, and Teacher Advisor is Margarite DePaola.

A scholarship donation is a wonderful way to recognize a teacher, family member or
colleague in a meaningful way. All scholarships are named with the donor name along
with the Rotary Club of Coral Gables, unless the donor does not wish to be recognized.

The following message comes from from Greg Shephard, Donor Relations and Scholarship Specialist of the California Community Foundation, through Trustee of the Jules Zentner Scholarship Fund and Rotarian David Sanchez:

On behalf of the California Community Foundation (CCF), I am pleased to announce the availability of the Jules Zentner Scholarship Fund for the 2011-2012 academic year. The scholarship shall be awarded to 4 student(s) who meet(s) the following eligibility criteria:
• Plan to be a full time student at a post-secondary institution
• Community service
• Demonstrate leadership, integrity and potential to achieve career goals
• Academic achievement
• Financial need should be considered when all other factors are equal

... the award amount from the 2010-2011 school year was $3000. We do not expect a
significant change in the award amounts for the 2011-2012 school year.
