The Rotary Foundation Does So Much
With So Little!
The Rotary Foundation - the amazing organization that has grown from a $26.50 donation made by Rotarian Arch Klumph from Kansas City, Missouri in 1918 to a charitable fund that is expected to top $1 Billion by 2020.
RI President Glenn Estess, Sr. (2004-05) said; "Doing Good in the World is more than a motto. It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder. It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have. Our Foundation exists to support the good that we can do through Rotary. It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective. Because of our Foundation we can, very simply, do more of our Rotary work."
Every Rotarian, Every Year, OWES The Rotary Foundation it's due. The Rotary Foundation Goal for 2013-2014 is $120 million. That's $100 from everyone of the 1.2 million Rotarians in 35,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide. That is EVERY Rotarian's responsibility.
That's $100 that goes directly into the Annual Fund. It stays there for three years you know? Then 50% of it comes back here - to South Florida - to our Club - to use for the many wonderful charitable projects that Coral Gables undertakes every year. And ALL of the money goes back out into the world. Nothing is kept by the Foundation. They operate only on the interest from the money - with costs of less than 4% a year.
And it costs you only $2.00 a week. That's sofa change! You won't even miss it. But millions of people worldwide will benefit from the collective and cumulative money that we Rotarians give every year.
So far this month - the first month of the new Rotary Year - 81 of our members have continued to be Sustaining Members of The Rotary Foundation. There's still 45 members who have not yet committed to becoming Sustaining Members for this year. Those who have already donated are wearing the 2013-2014 Foundation Flag on their badge. Do you have yours yet? If not, you can give our Treasurer, Bill Q your check or credit card and he will deposit it to your account at The Rotary Foundation OR you can go to www.rotary.org and donate on line, any time.
